The Flute is a Wind instrument. It was first made of wood but now of silver and other metals. The modern flute is known as a transverse (sideblown) flute. The player's breath sets in vibration the column of air inside the tube. The body originally had one thumb-hole and from four to eight finger-holes.
The Flute is the soprano of the Woodwind section of the orchestra and is capable of playing very fast passages of music. The sound of the flute sometimes resembles the singing of a bird- high pitched and sweet

The Clarinet is a wooden instrument Johann Christoph Denner invented the clarinet inGermany around the turn of the 18th century by adding a register key to the earlier chalumeau (an instrument looking like a recorder but with a mouthpiece like the Calrinet) Over time, additional keywork and airtight pads were added to improve tone and playability. It is a single reed instrument which usually takes lower notes than the flute in an ensemble. Today, the clarinet is used in jazz and classical ensembles, inchamber groups, and as a solo instrument.
In Mozart's time, the 18th Century, the Clarinet had just been invented and was a favourite instrument of Mozart. This Clarinet Concerto is one of his best loved works.

The Oboe is a double reed Woodwind instrument. More shrill in tone compared to the Clarinet, the Oboe was a very popular instrument in the 17th Century before the Clarinet was invented. Although still a member of the Orchestra today, not as many young people learn Oboe as many of the other orchestral instruments. The Oboe has a lower tone than the clarinet and flute.

Like the Oboe, the Bassoon is a double reed instrument but with a lower sound. It is the Bass instrument of the Woodwind family. Its double reed is attached to a small curved tube called a bocal which fits into the bassoon. When the player blows air between the reeds, the vibrating column of air inside the instrument travels over nine feet to the bottom of the instrument, then up to the top where the sound comes out
